Fitness Tips for Busy People

Finding time to stay healthy and focusing on your body can be difficult for anyone, but for people who work or are entrepreneurs whose work seems to follow them around everywhere, it seems almost impossible. Most of us would like to make a healthy commitment to our future selves, but get overwhelmed with work, family obligations and a hectic social calendar. Even the most well intended thoughts of healthy goals eventually fall by the wayside. We are all aware that a consistent workout schedule makes us happier, healthier, more productive and most importantly, less stressed, but the biggest obstacle is getting started.

Those who lead hectic lifestyles often forget that the body will gradually age and needs to be taken care of too. Like your job or business, your body needs proper care and attention. Do not put off your healthy life goals for even one more day. Adopt these simple guidelines to see how even the busiest people can make fitness a part of their lives.

Schedule:

This is perhaps the most important aspect of any fitness schedule. Even those with the best intentions are likely to skip workout schedules. Treat your workout schedule exactly as you would your business meeting–an event that is not postponable.  Spend a few minutes every week to make your weekly schedule and note it down to help you remember  it. Throw in a bit of variation here and there so that your schedule isn’t monotonous, and that you look forward to it each day.

Set Realistic Goals

Avoid going overboard by setting difficult and hard to achieve goals. You will burn yourself out far quicker than you realise and there will be a greater chance of you slipping back into old excuses and habits. Even if you feel that you have the energy, stick to the goals you had set initially and a schedule that is doable in the long run. As the workout becomes ingrained in your regimen and your strength and stamina builds up, you can gradually up the ante.

Involve Others

If you feel your social commitments are taking a back seat and you are lagging behind with friends, then pull them in too. Get them involved in your healthy habits. Plan a happy hour, or go for a long walk before you join them for dinner at a restaurant. Join a dance class with co-workers, find a running buddy or even get a group for some healthy competition at the gym. Exercising is always more fun when you have friends involved.

Improvise instead of Skipping Workouts

There will be times when you will have to be flexible. Obligations could arise or there could be a crisis which would affect your schedule, but the mantra is to do a short workout rather than skip it entirely. Even 10 or 20 minutes of exercise will give you some benefits and still manage to keep you on track.

Time spent on your body and health will allow you better clarity at work and a fresher perspective–something you will never regret. Leading a healthy lifestyle will benefit both you and your business in the long run as healthy people tend to be happier and more productive.
